The real commitment to losing weight that I made ingrained in my mind and heart stemmed from my first day of school. I wanted to take some photos to show my friends on the new campus, so I used a new classmate's digital camera. She was a very thin and slender girl. After taking the photos, she uploaded them directly to her social media, saying she'd add them to my album later. A few days later, we were online together, and I noticed that all my photos on her social media were titled "Born Ugly." The photos showed me covered in flab (I was almost 140 pounds at the time), and seeing myself smiling so brightly made me feel ashamed. Yes! I was dissatisfied with the actions of that self-proclaimed naturally beautiful person, but even more so, I felt deeply resentful! I felt incredibly guilty towards myself. Why did I allow myself to endure all this: ridicule and inferiority? What right did I have to let my radiant smile be paired with such a bloated figure because of my gluttony? Later, I wrote a diary entry that felt like an apology letter, apologizing to myself. I feel so sorry for myself, from the time I gained weight (I was still ranked 101 in the first semester of my junior year of high school!) until now, for all the emotional damage I've caused myself! I truly want to say "I'm sorry" to myself from the bottom of my heart!
