1. Etiology related to wind-evil: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that sudden onset of red, itchy wheals on the skin is often due to the invasion of "wind-evil". For example, if it occurs after being exposed to cold or wind, it is mostly due to wind-cold; if it worsens with heat, it may be accompanied by damp-heat.
2. Significant impact on physical constitution: Long-term fatigue or a diet high in spicy foods can easily lead to imbalances in Qi and blood, which may induce rashes; symptoms worsen during emotional stress, often related to stagnation of liver Qi.
3. Diverse onset characteristics: The rash appears and disappears intermittently, and its rapid onset and disappearance are characteristic of "wind-like changeability"; if accompanied by gastrointestinal discomfort, it may be related to damp-heat in the spleen and stomach.
To manage flare-ups, keep a daily record of the pattern and avoid known allergens such as seafood and pollen. Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing to reduce friction. During an flare-up, you can gently wipe the skin with a decoction of mild herbs such as peppermint leaves. However, if the symptoms persist for a week or are accompanied by difficulty breathing, seek medical attention promptly. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule and a light diet can help reduce recurring flare-ups.
