When trying to lose weight, the hardest hurdle is undoubtedly the temptation of delicious food. How can you control your appetite? Here are eight tips.
1. Make yourself feel successful
How long has it been since you last stuck to a new plan? Create a diet plan that you're confident you can follow, even if it's only for a few days. This will not only make you feel capable of success, but it will also reinforce the belief that good eating habits make you feel better, thus strengthening your resolve to stick to the plan.
2. Find more motivation
If your sole purpose for dieting is weight loss, that motivation might seem difficult to sustain. However, dieting can actually prevent migraines, relieve heartburn, acne, mouth ulcers, and improve sleep quality. Your new eating plan will enhance your quality of life and address your health issues. These motivations are enough to keep you going.
3. Don't dwell on your mistakes.
Did you indulge your appetite? Forget about it. One indulgence won't affect your overall diet plan, so don't think you've failed. One lapse out of five healthy meals is acceptable.
4. Eat breakfast
If you go to work without eating breakfast after 6 to 8 hours of sleep, you may consume more sugar at lunch.
5. Change the food you stockpile
Clean out the cupboards and refrigerator, and fill them with almonds and other nuts, cheese, fruits and vegetables, canned goldfish, chicken, and...? fish. Do the same at work, and get rid of any snacks in the cupboards that don't fit your diet plan.
6. Think like a biochemist
Even natural cookies contain organic sugars and are junk food. If you crave cookies, tell yourself you're breaking your diet plan, not that they're healthy, as this will only encourage your bad habit.
7. Recognize hunger
Even if you ate just an hour ago, you might crave more. If you're truly hungry, choose steak, not candy. You could also try changing your environment to distract yourself.
8. Use logical thinking
Before you take a bite, think about whether that bite will bring you one step closer to your goal or one step further away. While this won't prevent you from making the wrong decision every time, it can help you develop a long-term habit of thinking about your food.
